Siddhashram Dham Harrow Marks India’s Independence Day with Grandeur, Interfaith Harmony, and Esteemed Guests from India & UK

London, Friday 15 August – The International Siddhashram Dham in Harrow hosted a historic celebration of India’s 79th Independence Day with a vibrant flag hoisting ceremony and an interfaith cultural gathering that brought together dignitaries from across India and the United Kingdom. The event reflected Siddhashram’s enduring commitment to unity, cultural pride, and community service under the visionary guidance of His Holiness Guruji.

The celebration commenced in Siddhashram’s courtyard with the unfurling of the Tiranga, led by The Worshipful the Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Anjana Patel, Pankaj Bhai Modi from Gujarat, Pujya Jogi Dada, Shri Chaitnya Shambhu Maharaj, and Guruji. The resonating notes of the Indian National Anthem filled the air, followed by a spirited performance from the Maharashtrian Dhol Tashe team, setting a patriotic tone.

Inside the main hall, the tricolour spirit continued with guests honoured with traditional tricolour caps and shawls, symbolising India’s unity in diversity. The event also paid homage to VJ Day, honouring the sacrifices of soldiers during World War II.

The ceremony was attended by Dr Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India; Pankaj Bhai Modi from Gujarat; interfaith leaders; UK civil officers from the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Metropolitan Police, and St John Ambulance; as well as councillors, former mayors, and community leaders. Their presence underscored the deep cultural and civic ties between India and the UK.

Special Honour for New Police Commander

In a significant moment, Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, newly appointed Commander of the North West BCU, was formally honoured by Siddhashram Dham for his new leadership role.

Luke Williams expressed his gratitude, saying:

“It is an absolute honour to be welcomed in this way. I look forward to working closely with all communities, learning from one another, and strengthening our shared values of respect, safety, and unity.”

 

 

Guruji praised Mr Williams’ dedication to community service, remarking:

“At Siddhashram, we believe in nurturing trust between communities and institutions. By honouring Mr Williams today, we acknowledge his responsibility and express our confidence in his leadership to foster harmony and mutual respect.”

The presentation was made by Pankaj Bhai Modi on behalf of Siddhashram, symbolising friendship and collaboration between civic institutions and the community.

Pankaj Bhai Modi lauded the grace and patriotism with which India’s Independence Day was celebrated abroad, crediting Guruji for creating an environment that unites the Indian diaspora “like a garland of diverse pearls.” This is one of the most memorable moments of my life. The credit for creating this sacred and inspiring atmosphere goes to none other than His Holiness Guruji.
Pankaj Bhai said, “It is now the duty of each one of us, whether living in India or abroad, to support Guruji in his noble mission. He is not just serving the Indian community in Britain; he is serving India itself by upholding and promoting our dharma, culture, and unity at a global stage. For this, I bow to Guruji with the deepest respect and offer my heartfelt gratitude. May his work continue to inspire generations to come.”
Mayor Cllr Anjana Patel thanked Guruji for organising the annual flag hoisting for the past 12 years, reflecting on India’s unstoppable progress and Harrow’s pride as a hub of the Indian community in the UK.
Dr Ramdas Athawale delivered his first Independence Day address in London, praising the Indian diaspora’s contributions, celebrating cultural performances, and promising to convey the London community’s regards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He paid tribute to Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s London legacy and applauded Guruji’s efforts to uphold Sanatan Dharma abroad.
Guruji emphasised the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The World is One Family) and announced that Siddhashram will host a Shiv Katha from 18–22 August 2025, in tribute to the victims of the Air India plane crash.

Interfaith & Cultural Unity

The stage welcomed David Cryer, Harrow Interfaith; Cllr Janet Mote, Portfolio Holder for Community & Culture; Navin Shah, Former Chair of London Assembly; saints from Gujarat; and officers representing all branches of the British Armed Forces, including:Warrant Officer Ashok Chauhan – British Army, Kamakshi Jani – Royal Navy, Nigam Joshi – Royal Air Force, Kam Jani – St John Ambulance.

The cultural programme featured captivating dances by children, soulful songs, and spirited youth speeches, symbolising the energy of the next generation. Trustees and patrons from India and the UK expressed their joy at witnessing this unity of spirit.
