Buddhist Centre calls for peace and prayer for Sri Lanka.

Interfaith gathering unites communities in prayer for Sri Lanka

An interfaith gathering unfurled its wings on a heartfelt Sunday, December 7th, 2025, as the serene grounds of the Shri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre in Kingsbury, London, blossomed with a global call for harmony and remembrance. The interfaith spirit of the day united souls in a luminous quest for world peace and honoured the victims of the devastating tsunami. People of many faiths came together, reminding everyone present that compassion knows no boundaries of religion or culture.

Representing the noble International Siddhashram Shakti Centre and the sacred Sanatan Hindu community, the esteemed Peace Ambassador of the World Book of Records, HH Shri Rajrajeshwar Guruji, was graciously invited to lead a prayer for unity and healing. The event was graced by dignitaries: Brent’s Mayor, Cllr. Ryan Hack, Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Mrs. Manorie Mallikaratchy, Mei Sim Lai, DL for Brent, alongside many distinguished guests and community leaders.

How interfaith dialogue builds lasting peace

As the candle flames flickered in a collective gesture of hope, Buddhist monks, Sri Lankan officials, Guruji, and interfaith delegates joined in luminous homage, lighting candles dedicated to peace in Sri Lanka and beyond. Shri Rajrajeshwar Guruji’s resonant voice echoed through the gathering as he chanted the sacred Gayatri Mantra, invoking universal harmony. Moments like these show how interfaith dialogue can transform grief into shared resolve and turn remembrance into renewed commitment.

The interfaith model embraced at the Buddhist Centre demonstrates how diverse traditions can stand shoulder to shoulder in the face of tragedy. When Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and other communities gather under one roof, the message of solidarity reaches far beyond the walls of any single temple or place of worship. Such gatherings nurture mutual understanding and lay the foundation for cooperation long after the candles have been extinguished.

A shared vision for the future

The success of this interfaith event reflects a growing recognition that lasting peace is built through partnership rather than isolation. Organisers expressed their hope that the gathering would inspire similar initiatives across London and beyond, encouraging communities to come together regularly in friendship and prayer. The warmth shared on the day was a reminder that unity is not the absence of difference, but the celebration of it.
