Empowering Women Through Self-Defence: A Transformational Initiative Launched in Harrow.

Harrow, London | 17 April 2026- Siddhashram community HUB
In an increasingly fast-paced and urban society like the United Kingdom, concerns around personal safety especially for women and young girls have been steadily rising. While awareness has grown, access to practical self-defence training remains limited for many. This gap highlights an urgent need for community-driven initiatives that equip women not only with physical techniques, but also with the confidence and mindset to protect themselves.
Addressing this critical need, a Women Empowerment & Self-Defence Program was successfully conducted at the Siddhashram Community Hub in Harrow, led by internationally recognised self-defence trainer and women’s rights advocate Anjusha Chaughule.
The session was part of a growing movement to bring simple, practical, and accessible self-defence techniques to everyday women empowering them to respond confidently in real-life situations.

Speaking about the initiative, Anjusha Chaughule emphasised,
“Self-defence today is not a choice it is a necessity. But more importantly, it is about awareness, mindset, and the courage to stand up for oneself. This mission is about reaching communities and ensuring that every woman feels capable and confident.”
Recognising the importance of this cause, key members of the Harrow community came forward to support and initiate this movement. The program was made possible with the support of Int. Siddhashram shakti Centre – UK under the guidance of HH Shri Rajrajeshwar Guruji, along with community leaders Gayatri Shenoy and Meera Khatavkar, a Harrow Residents, who played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 50 participants attending the session. The 90-minute highly interactive workshop, which included live demonstrations, real-life scenarios, and hands-on practice, was met with enthusiastic participation and engagement from attendees across age groups.
Participants described the session as “eye-opening,” “confidence-building,” and “extremely practical for real-life situations.”
Many expressed that the training not only taught them techniques but also helped shift their mindset from fear to awareness and control.
This marks one of the first structured community-led self-defence initiatives of its kind in Harrow, setting the foundation for a larger movement focused on women’s safety and empowerment.
Encouraged by the success and response, Anjusha Chaughule & Siddhashram have confirmed that many more such sessions are planned across communities, aiming to reach a wider audience and create lasting impact.

This initiative reinforces a powerful message:
Empowerment commences when awareness is coupled with action, fostering community cooperation to initiate meaningful change. Ultimately, Anshuja ji was honored by the spiritual leader HH Shri Rajrajeshwar Guruji and the Harrow Interfaith Chair, Mr. Gopal Bhachu ji, who presented her with a Rudraksha mala and a shawl.
