DESCRIPTION:The International Siddhashram Shakti Centre has organized this festival for many years in Harrow to foster interfaith community harmony\, under the guidance of HH Shri Rajrajeshwar Guurji. \nThe Holika Dahan bonfire is a ceremonial tradition rooted in the stories of Prahlad Maharaja. It symbolizes protection and emphasizes the significance of faith in Lord Vishnu. \nOn the night before Holi\, pyres are traditionally burnt in regions such as North India\, East India\, Assam\, Nepal\, and parts of South India\, in accordance with this custom. \nHolika Dahan signifies the transition from winter to spring\, a period of renewal and revitalization in nature\, representing fresh beginnings and a new season. The fire is viewed as a means to burn away negative energies and impurities—both physical and spiritual—preparing individuals for the joy and celebrations of Holi. Communities come together to participate in these rituals\, strengthening social bonds and fostering unity. \nIn some parts of North India\, the day is called Holika Dahan\, while in regions like Purvanchal (eastern Uttar Pradesh and western Bihar) and the Terai areas of Nepal\, it is known as Sammat Jaarna. In West Bengal\, the day before Dolyatra is called ‘Chanchor’ or ‘Nyara Pora\,’ during which dry branches\, twigs\, and leaves are gathered and set ablaze to commemorate Holika Dahan.
